Rehabilitation of World-Heritage Cities in Arab Countries

A toolkit for participatory urban conservation and development

Sonja Nebel / Meinolf Spiekermann

The City of Aleppo/Syria and the German Development Cooperation have been cooperating since 1994 and engaged into an integrative process of rehabilitation of the old city of Aleppo, a UNESCO-listed World-Heritage City and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Tools applied and experiences made may be useful for other cities dealing with urban heritage preservation in comparable contexts, and have been documented in the toolkit at hand. It addresses to municipal decision-makers and urban development professionals, as well as to universities and other institutions.
