Aleppo suffers from both physical and visual pollution. 

Physical pollution is the pollution of air, soil, water.   It is a result of:

• Population growth and dense urban living conditions

• Lack of planning

• A mix of incompatible land uses

• Limited and inappropriate regulation and enforcement

• Poor water and sewer services

• Limited solid waste collection and disposal (particular in informal areas)

• Pollution intensive transportation as a result of poor fuel quality, poor maintenance of cars, buses and trucks,

• Pollution intensive manufacturing

• Household customs
