Aleppo offers a lot of strengths, but also suffers from some weaknesses. On the one hand, economic growth in the northern region of Syria takes place primarily in and around Aleppo. On the other hand, economic development is limited to focal areas. Only a small proportion of the population gains profit from the economic development.
The City Council - Directorate of the OCA - and the GTZ joint efforts to launchThe LED-component which advises the City of Aleppo in developing a strategy to respond to the needs and demands of the business community throughout the city with a special focus on the Old City. This will lead to organizational, administrative, and procedural adjustments within the municipal administration. In addition, LED strives for stronger competitiveness of the Old City’s economic development. Joint efforts by the stakeholders of the old city’s economy are encouraged, for example: sharing marketing efforts, adapting traditional handicrafts to international demand patterns, and establishing LED as a permanent participatory process.

Visiting the Rehabilitation Project

the Old City of Aleppo hosts on Tuesday the 10th of March a group of students from University of Economy and Environment in Nutringen-Geislingen / Germany and from University of Damascus - Faculty of Architecture, the working team has presented to them a special lecture about the Rehabilitation Project, followed by a tour and a visit to the permanent exhibition in Shibani School.
